Originally incorporated in Nov. of 1819, the Church was an offshoot of Avon Baptist Church for the purpose of accommodating the growing population to the north including Randolph, Canton, and Stoughton, all suburban of Boston Ma.
The church building has been continuously located on its current property, although the sanctuary burned down and was rebuilt in 1921 as its current structure.
First Baptist Church has been a member of The American Baptist Churches of Massachusetts since its inception. The Church was and is theologically conservative, however, it is known for its social justice conscience.
We continue to be theologically conservative, believing in the inerrancy of Scripture as our authority for living. We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, born, crucify and resurrected to be on the right side of the Father. We believe in the Trinity, God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. He gives salvation of eternal life to all those that believe.
We believe that the love of God allows us to love one another and those in our community as our mission statement reflects. “First Baptist Church exists to love God and our neighbors as we share the message of Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Today First Baptist Church is a multi-cultural congregation with members who have backgrounds from thirteen different nations of origin. We celebrate this diversity by honoring various cultures, with events such as luncheons and themes reflecting the various cultures in the church.
Our musical selections also reflect that same diversity of the congregation. Our worship leader often sings in French.
One of the highlights of the services is the opportunity for individuals to pray in local dialect of the country of origin during the service.
